LUMINARY
art installation
Scheduled for installation at The ArtsCenter in Carrboro, NC during October of 2023, this art installation commemorates donors to the new ArtsCenter building, and will occupy the ceiling above the main gallery.
Iridescence has profound mystical connotations spanning for centuries and across numerous cultures. It is associated with healing, protection, hope, vitality, and connection with the divine. Located in the entrance gallery of the new Arts Center, the Luminary installation will be suspended from the ceiling in the form of an undulating cloud composed of individual iridescent lumens. The installation will hover above this transitory space between outer and inner, and infuse both the room and all who pass through it with energy that is healing, vital, and protective.
The significance behind the iridescent Luminary installation is rooted in my personal history as an artist. Iridescence is associated with personal transformation. This installation is symbolic of the recreation of my health and the reimagining of my life’s purpose.
In 2018 I was victim to a car crash and suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. My career as a budding architect came to an abrupt halt; since then I've been on a challenging road to recovery. At the beginning of the pandemic, I began making art, and found a way to utilize my creative potential for healing.
Active visualization has been a powerful tool in my health recovery. Utilizing iridescence as a meditative focus provides a connection to my spirituality - to lightness, vitality, hope, and positivity. The Luminary installation is a physical manifestation of these qualities.
To become a Luminary is to connect with transformative hope and goodness within oneself, and to nourish these qualities within the Arts Center community.
