FOLDED POETRY's

design inspiration explained...

Both the function and aesthetic of Folded Poetry are born out of Eliza's experience with disability. Aesthetically, the work is rooted in the persistent visual disturbances she manages on a daily basis. Often when Eliza look at patterns, they appear to swim or move on their own accord, much like an optical illusion. Folded Poetry seeks to capture the structure of regular patterns and shapes, while adding a layer of geometric information which the eyes and brain can't quite make sense of. This visual disorientation is designed to challenge viewers to perceive outside of what is normal or traditional, just as she must now live, adapt, and navigate the world in new ways.

Functionally, this work is driven by her experience of auditory overwhelm. After Eliza's brain injury she found herself unable to function in loud spaces. Suddenly having an accessibility barrier to most of the places where she had once enjoyed spending time motivated her to explore producing acoustical art. She has since found that controlling sound in a visually appealing manner can provide widespread benefits for various users and applications

Folded Poetry draws upon Eliza's architecture background and education of the design process to explore this unique combination of aesthetic and function. Folded Poetry seeks to both increase awareness of invisible disabilities and resolve the accessibility barriers which accompany them.

DESIGN
AGREEMENT

2

Once we've determined that Folded Poetry will help you achieve your goals, we enter into a Design Services Agreement - establishing terms for design of the artwork.

DISCOVERY

Folded-Poetry-design-view-1

1

Let's establish a holistic understanding of the project goals. This includes discussing your space, the artwork location, size, project timeline, budget, as well as inspiration for the work - which may include an image, idea, colors, place, words, etc.

The goal of this phase is to determine if Folded Poetry services are a good fit for your needs. This project phase usually takes place over a video call, email, or a paid site visit.

DESIGN PHASE

3

The design concept comes to life. Sketches and/or digital design iterations are produced to demonstrate ideas for the artwork. We work together through [up to three rounds of] iterations with the goal of realizing the best and highest use of artwork which fit your project needs. Supplementary digital renderings and/or physical models may be produced as needed.
